VOTO XO
VOTO XO is a design, interior architecture and research studio by Madeleine Oltra and Angelo de Taisne. Their practice is about embodying a story through the design of spaces, furniture and objects. They create complete narrative spaces, following a scenario often infused with fictional inspirations. They work from their studio in Marseille and in close collaboration with local artisans.
VOTO XO is a name inspired by the essence of ex-votos. The materials used for ex-votos are often of humble origin — a wooden plank, a stone, a sheet of metal, a slab of clay — and the attention to details signs their uniqueness. Placing them in a dedicated spot is essential.
Likewise, VOTO XO forms a whole, with intention, material, shape and space. VOTO XO is written like a wish and the signature of a letter; XO.
For their first collaboration as a duo at the Villa Noailles, they were named winners of the Grand Prix du Jury Design Parade Toulon de Van Cleef & Arpels 2022, the Visual Merchandising prize awarded by Chanel, the Carmignac Foundation endowment, and the Pitchouns Prize. | Madeleine trained at the Design Academy Eindhoven (Netherlands). Angelo trained at l’École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Malaquais (France), and at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design (Al-Quds Jerusalem). |
